People and Collaboration

Idam Design is a small studio working across digital systems, field research, and cultural projects. The work develops through sustained attention, and often over extended periods of time.

If this way of working resonates with you — as a collaborator, researcher, or practitioner — we are open to conversations.

What the studio looks like from the inside

Work at the studio moves across domains. A project may involve interface design, field research, drawing, writing, or prototyping — sometimes within the same day.

This overlap is intentional. It allows ideas to move between digital and physical contexts, and keeps the work grounded in use rather than remaining abstract.

The studio is based in Bangalore. Fieldwork takes us across South India and beyond. Some roles can be partially remote; many require time on site.

Current areas of interest

We are currently looking to work with:
• Architects and 3D practitioners who can contribute to spatial modelling across heritage, architecture, and interactive projects
• Individuals interested in outreach and partnerships, particularly those comfortable engaging with schools and institutions around India Nearby
We are not actively expanding our UI/UX team at this time. However, designers with strong visual and illustrative abilities, and an interest in working across media, are welcome to write.
• Researchers, naturalists, and field assistants with an interest in ecology, history, or landscape
• Illustrators and visual designers, particularly those comfortable working with natural history and field-based material

For emerging practitioners

We occasionally take on interns and junior collaborators. We look for a habit of observation — people who notice, document, and question.

Show us how you think. Finished work matters, but the process behind it matters as much.

For researchers and collaborators

India Nearby and Secret of Kavaledurga draw on multiple domains — ecology, history, cartography, and narrative.

If you work in any of these areas and are interested in how knowledge can be translated into visual, spatial, or interactive form, we are open to collaboration. Engagements may take different forms, depending on the work.

For institutions and partners

We work with institutions, research groups, and cultural organisations where there is a shared area of inquiry or purpose. This may involve documentation, research, design development, or long-term collaboration.

What engagement looks like

We do not maintain open positions. Collaborations are project-led and developed based on the needs of the work. Internships are typically three to six months and paid. Other engagements are structured case by case.

If you are writing to us, share what you are working on or thinking about. Conversations are most useful when they begin from a question.
